Rev. Jen Tyler
I grew up in McCook Lake, South Dakota, as the third of six children. It was there that I first fell in love with God, The United Methodist Church, and discovered the importance of missions. I embarked on my first mission trips and experienced my call to ministry while a student at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa before going on to seminary at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.
Following seminary, I served as a missionary with The United Methodist Church's Global Ministries in South Africa and Washington, DC. Upon returning to the Dakotas, I was blessed to serve as Pastor to Clark and Garden City United Methodist Churches in South Dakota before coming to Evergreen UMC in 2014.
In my free time, when I am not busy in the local church or sharing stories over cups of (good, strong!) coffee, I love to travel and ride my bike, sometimes at the same time.
I look forward to the adventures in ministry that await us!
I have been Administrative Assistant at Evergreen since 1982. My husband Tom and I have two grown daughters, 3 grandsons and most recently a granddaughter. Tom and I have been on numerous mission trips to Jamaica and one to Grenada with members of Evergreen. I enjoy traveling, reading and spending time with family. Wahpeton is my hometown.
I'm the adult choir director (lucky me) and I help with Sunday School music and serve on several committees at Evergreen. I've been a member here since being confirmed at Foss Methodist a FEW years ago. My professional career has included teaching 4th and 5th grades in Wyndmere, substitute teaching and giving piano lessons while our children were young, and have for the last 21 years been a music teacher and now librarian and 6th grade reading teacher at St. Mary's. For 18 of those years, I taught music only at St. John's and was music teacher and library coordinator (most of the years) for St. Mary's School in Breckenridge.
I've been married to my husband Ed for decades and we have 3 grown children, Becky (Matt) Dockter, Jeff (Rachel) Olson, and Alicia Olson. We are also blessed with 5 grandchildren, Hattie and Evan Dockter and Colin, Etta, and Elliott Olson. My mom, Linda McDougall, is still an active member of Evergreen. Through it all, I've found love and support from the staff and members of Evergreen and firmly believe that "I am the church, you are the church, we are the church together." Blessing to all.

She enjoys music, playing bridge, sewing, gardening, and reading.
